InSight Desktop is having a hard time discovering my InSight Adapters. What can I try?
Categories:
I just installed InSight Desktop on my PC and my InSight Adapters seem to be working, but I can't see any of my InSight Adapters. Why? I used to be able to discover my InSight Adapters, but for some reason, I can no longer discover them. What is the issue?
With regard to discovering your adapters, some things to try:
- Make sure that if your computer has a firewall, that the settings are not preventing the discovery message from being sent, or that the discovery response message from the ISA is not being blocked.
- Make sure that if your devices are on the local subnet, you ISD is set up to scan the appropriate subnet. These settings can be found under file->preferences, click on the Discovery tab.
- If it is still not working, you can discover the ip address of the adapter(s) you wish to connect to by plugging in to the admin port on the back of the ISA with a USB cable. If you issue a “config” command, the ISA should respond with the IP address. If you then put this IP address into ISD in the discovery preferences, it should show up. If not, then there is likely some network issue. (For more information about attaching to the admin port via a direct serial [USB] connection, please refer to the "Setting Up Serial Communication with InSight Adapter" section of the EM250 User's Guide [document 120-4024-000] or EM260 User's Guide [document 120-4027-000], provided as PDF in documentation directory of EmberZNet. For more information about configuring IP settings for the ISA via admin interface, see "Configuring the InSight Adapter" in this same document.)
- We have noticed in the past that the discovery process does not work very well over WiFi. Make sure that your PC and ISAs are plugged into the same router.
- Finally, make sure you only have one network adapter open on your PC. It is a known issue (and one that we are working on a solution for) that ISD will pick one network adapter from the PC and scan from that.
